Grod the porridge restaurant of Copenhagen
Before coming to Copenhagen I did my research by ploughing through YouTube videos all about this beautiful city and came across one from the VagaBrothers about a company that had set up its business all about porridge oats, interesting I thought.
So morning one I headed out of the hotel and through the park to a wonderful indoor food market that looked like a large greenhouse, packed full of local producers. Local fish, meats, pasta baked goods and round the edges, of the market the stalls were mini cafes with tables and seats sat next to the glass, each one specialising in something amazing. But I was here to see Grod a Danish phenomenon, the first restaurant opened on the world all about porridge. This little stall with 2 members of staff and 4 shiny silver saucepans bubbling away on a little stove was causing so much attention from locals and tourists alike. The place was so busy all its seats were full and people were heading outside with there steaming takeaway pots to sit outside on wooden benches with there pots of goodness in the cold. This wasn’t just a bowl of porridge the menu was full of yummy things like porridge with Apple compote and caramel sauce. Chia seed pudding with banana, nuts, peanut butter and Danish yoghurt. I had 3 wonderful mornings in Copenhagen and every morning I walked the 20 mins through the park to this food market in the cold to get my steaming pot of goodness. The whole thing was amazing and I’m not sure I will ever be able to look at the simple bowl of oats in the same way again. If your ever in Denmark do please check out Gord, as you won’t be disappointed and to Gord I say “I love you” and “when will you be arriving in the UK?” xx
