Papiroen – the trend for street food in Copenhagen
There is a brand new experience in street food that started in Copenhagen several years ago in an art development area next to the river across the water from Nyhavn called Papiroen. As you walk through a rundown industrial area full of containers you would wonder what you had let yourself in to. But like sheep, we follow the crowd past the artist studio and random contemporary sculptures to the waterfront following the beat of the music. We take a few minutes reading the labels on the wish tree garden designed by Yoko Ono. Through to the main attraction the huge warehouse full of the newest and exciting street food experiences. Hotdogs served in crispy buns with oven roasted potatoes, caramelized onions and fresh pesto sauce poured all over them. Shredded duck covered in 5 different topping served with chips fried in duck fat to give them a totally unique flavour. As well as all the food stands there is plenty of communal seating areas with bars and DJs spinning tunes in the evenings it’s the coolest way to be inspired by food.
Every town needs a Papiroen street food area to allow the exciting new trends in food to be found.
